The other day, the man who helps me with the garden came to prune some trees. They had got very large and were getting a bit out of hand and wild. I didn’t want to get rid of them because in the spring time they are full of lovely blossom. So he brought his chain-saw and very long, strong ladders and cut away the old, dead branches that had outlived their use and were no longer producing the flowers they ought to.
| Cutting to leave space for new growth |
Much of the parts that he cut away were actually impeding new growth and crossing over and twisting around other branches that would eventually have become tangled and not branching straight outwards in the way they should. After he had finished, it was surprising to see just how much he had cut away and yet the tree still looked big, strong and healthy. Now, however it had more room to grow properly and produce the beautiful blossom that we can all enjoy.
So much dead wood!
A friend commented that when she was putting away the gifts she and her family had received over the Christmas time she realised that they had so much stuff, it was time to de-clutter. How easy it is to hang on to all the stuff we have, even when it no longer serves its purpose and often means that we have little room for anything new. The important lesson of life is not to hold on to the things that are past that are no longer useful for purpose but rather cut away and get rid of it in order to allow new things to happen. Easier said than done! But a valuable lesson all the same.

We've decluttered, well sort of! We often re-use things and so it is a real problem to get rid of things. It is always just after we get rid of things that we find a use for it.
Old cardboard boxes - great for storage, and we compost many as they make a great weed barrier. But where do we store them in the meantime? That's our downfall. Must find a better way to keep what we need and be brave and throw away that which we don't.
You end up decluttering the boxes you decluttered into - if you know what I mean!
I do indeed know what you mean :oD
