As I mentioned in my last blog, there was some hidden creative talent among the crew of the Island Escape. One afternoon, the poolside entertainment was a demonstration by one of the chefs of ice sculpture. He worked very quickly to make his creation in only a few minutes as it was a hot, sunny afternoon (25+degrees) and he was working in the sun at the side of the swimming pool. I’m sure that given cooler conditions, he could have created something more elaborate before the ice started melting. Under such conditions I think his art form was really good.
Another afternoon was given over to another couple of chefs who showed their skill in carving different animals out of fruit and vegetables. We had already seen some of their food sculptures in one of the three restaurants.
We didn’t manage to get to all of the different demonstrations as much of our daytime activity was taken up with sightseeing on land. But it was good to know that the crew had catered for our entertainment if we chose not to leave the ship or if the weather wasn’t too good for sightseeing. It was a great holiday with a real difference.
